The Story

Samiya first sang in public at 8 years old. She signed up to play Queen Esther at her elementary school's talent show. She was very nervous about her debut performance. However, she was encouraged by her number one fan, her mother. Her mother styled and curled her hair. She adorned Samiya's beautiful locks with ribbons and adorned her with a regal dress colored in various shades of purple and gold. Finally, it was time. She went up on the stage and sang "When You Believe", a duet originally performed by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. She began singing nervously, but as she fixed her gaze on her mother's proud eyes, she grew tall and confident. Samiya sang her heart out to the crowd that day. This day sparked a passion within Samiya, and life as she knew it would never be the same.
Performing arts has always been an important part of Samiya's life. She was a very active and musically inclined child; she studied dance, piano, took vocal, acting, and musical lessons, and was extremely engaged in the performing arts world. Her music teacher, Charlene, had a huge impact on her music career. She took Samiya under her wing at 11 years old, and under her tutelage, Samiya's voice flourished. Charlene taught Samiya to sing classical music with confidence and trained her voice into adulthood. Samiya's voice developed and with it her skills as a performer. She learned to sing classic as well as pop music. Her voice grew in versatility and strength. She will never forget what Charlene gave her; the faith to believe she could excel in her craft and achieve her dreams in the arts.
Charlene's lessons imbued Samiya with the confidence to audition for various roles. She eventually performed in several plays and musicals during middle and high school, and was a member of a youth acting/musical theatre company in her teens. Samiya was hungry for experience and performed wherever she could. Through these performances, she gained musical connections, which led her to the recording studio. She has worked with various pop, classical, and jazz musicians. These include Norine Castine, John Rodis, and Cypher Deen. Collaborations like these provided Samiya with opportunities to not only record music, but also to perform in concert in New York. She will be forever grateful to them, as well as the family, friends, teachers, and everyone else who has helped her on her journey.
Samiya has decided that now is the time to venture out on her own and share what she has learned through her own songs. We hope you enjoy her website and revel in Flores love.
I have to thank Andrea Bocelli, Bob Marley, Celia Cruz, Celine Dion, Cesaria Evora, and Marc Anthony, among other artists for their artistic contributions and inspirations, which they were brave enough to share with the musical world.
